2008-09 Innovation Grant Winners:

*Portable technology tablet to assist math teachers to better accommodate student needs through mobility in the classroom. (LHS – Nikki Olszewski, John Taylor) Awarded: $1000

*Identify behaviorally at-risk students and provide a curricular intervention for those students. (LHS – Sara Rogers) Awarded: $1000

*“Traveling” Polar Heart Rate Monitors will enable students to evaluate the exercise they engage in outside of class.  (VHHS – Brooke Gabris) Awarded: $960

*The salt water aquarium as a model for nitrogen and phosphorus cycling. Students will monitor nitrate and phosphate levels for the entire year as they relate to food quantities, algae growth, and the use of a refugium (a side tank with plants to act as a biological filter). (LHS – Beau Schaefer) Awarded: $820

*To enhance existing school courtyard with a therapeutic garden that would include healing plant materials and inspirational art pieces. (VHHS – Karen Day, Ellen Macias, Nancy Skeffington) Awarded: $1000

*Advanced Weight Training Lifting Lab is a three station lab where students will videotape and evaluate their three core lifts. (VHHS – Dave Schroetter, Jerry Miceli) Awarded $987.48

*Students will research various chemistry topics that relate to the powers of superheroes and will devise related hands-on activities for elementary/middle school students to do on Chemistry Day at the school. (LHS – Sherri Rukes) Awarded: $1000
